"Let's take a look:
Here's the headline I saw on the internet: Scientists find treatment to kill every kind of cancer tumor.
WOW!!! I thought that was pretty startling so I read on. The New York Post is reporting that scientists may have found the ultimate weapon in the battle against cancer. It's even being called a miracle drug by some.
Here's how it works, according to Science Magazine. The drug works by blocking a protein called CD47 which is a "do not eat" signal to the body's immune system. This proteing is produced in healthy blood cells, but Stanford University researchers that cancer cells produced a large amount of the protein and that tricked the immune system into not destroying the harmful cells. So researchers built and antibody that blocked cancer's CD47, allowing the immune system to attack the dangerous cells. So far it's only been tested in mice.
Now to the website of Stanford University School of Medicine.
Human tumors transplanted into mice shrank or disappeared in every single instance. Investigators are eager to begin phase 1 and 2 human clinical trials within the next two years. This worked with bladder, ovarian, breast, colon, brain, liver and prostate cancers. And these mice tumors shrank or disappeared within a matter of weeks.
So to say they've found a cure for cancer is a bit premature, but this is the most exciting news I've ever seen about the battle against cancer and I can't wait for the human trials and hopefully we can report similar success in those.
So for now the conclusion Fact because the statement is "may have found a cure." Indeed they may have. We just don't know for sure...not yet anyway."
